Hey tankers!
Today we go over a simple turret rotation assembly swap. The swap is pretty straight forward:
- Remove the 3 screws that hold the unit in place.
- Cut or desolder the wires from the upper hull board.
- Splice or solder the wires back into place with the new unit.
- Secure unit back in place with the three screw holes.

Unfortunately(kinda?) my unit is not broke so I cannot demonstrate how to test it at the same time. We did however make another video in this playlist on how to diagnose DC brushed motors if you need to learn. Now the swap is simple, remove screws, replace unit, and either splice or solder the wires.

I personally will solder, but I understand some do not like to solder or do not want to. You can splice the wires just like it was a speaker wire, just make sure to tape them good afterwards so they do not contact each other or anything else.

In this video we will be diagnosing brushed motors. Brushed motors run everything in the tank such as the caterpillar tracks, smoke unit, turret rotation, elevation, firing, and even recoil on the IR barrel. Sometimes these components will fail, and there is a simple way to tell if it is your motor or some other issue.
DC brushed motors are very simple and run off DC current. Applying DC current directly to the motors as shown will make the motor spin. Reversing the polarity will change the motor direction on a brushed motor. Please never apply more than 6V when testing the motors. The test is only to see if the motor will spin when bypassing the electronics and giving it direct power. If it does work then you either have a wiring issue or faulty electronics somewhere. Follow your wires back and test voltage farther down the line. Always make sure to unplug EVERYTHING before applying voltage to things. You can burn out your other electronics by backfeeding voltage into it!
